Listeria monocytogenes is a bacterium that can cause serious illness, especially in pregnant women, newborns, older adults, and people with weakened immune systems. Symptoms of listeria infection can include fever, muscle aches, headache, stiff neck, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. In severe cases, listeria infection can lead to death.
